Strings and Keys: How Music Shaped My Approach to Abstract Painting

My 2024 abstract painting is more than just color and form—it’s a visual symphony inspired by the rich sounds of guitars and piano, and the cultural vibes of Los Angeles and Nashville. The guitar, with its sharp strums and smooth, resonant chords, brought bold, sweeping strokes to the canvas. I found myself translating the rhythmic patterns into angular shapes and dynamic lines, echoing the instrument’s raw energy. In contrast, the piano’s delicate melodies and layered harmonies inspired intricate textures and subtle contrasts. The keys guided my brush toward softer transitions and fluid movements, giving the painting a sense of depth and introspection.

Los Angeles, with its vibrant, eclectic energy, influenced my choice of bright, saturated colors. The city’s dynamic pulse—its mix of modernity, creativity, and chaos—infused the artwork with a certain boldness and unpredictability. Meanwhile, Nashville’s soulful roots grounded the piece. The warm, earthy tones reflect the city’s deep musical heritage and its ability to evoke emotion and storytelling through sound. The blending of these two cities on my canvas mirrors how they coexist in my creative process: LA brings the flair, while Nashville adds soul.

This fusion of sound and place transformed my painting into a rhythmic exploration, where music and art harmonized. Each stroke and shade captures the essence of two cities that have profoundly shaped my artistic journey, allowing me to translate melodies and cultural experiences into visual form.
